Social Media Growth
August 30, 2009
Social media such as Facebook, Myspace and Twitter seem to be all the rage but is it here to stay? No one can be sure of the long gevity of services on a still emerging platform like the internet but what is for sure is the adoption rate is beyond anything we have seen before. Here is a short video to explain:
Television was truly revolutionary and within 4 years 50 million people had become viewers. Not with standing that each one of those users had to purchase new equipment but adding over 100 million users in less than 9 months, Facebook has become not only a network but a new way to communicate beyond phone, fax, text, and e-mail. Are you communicating with all those users?

SOLD! I feel so old watching this progress. I remember getting up to change the channel and getting a busy signal when I called friends. These Y and Z’s have no idea what it was like….LOL
Social media is absolutely the #1 marketing focus for the spectrum of organizations from major multi-nationals to small mom and pops and by no means is it going anwhere but up. It actually just comes back to basics where word of mouth is by far the strongest marketing medium and always will be. The difference now is through the use of social media, where everyone has a voice, and many of our “peers” are quickly turned into trusted advisors. The delta typically lies in the lack of strategy these tweeters, FB’ers and bloggers apply to their mediums – without a long term strategy its just another tactic. By far the greatest success story to date WRT social media is Dell and their amazing ability to capture millions of dollars through a well researched and articulated Twitter SM strategy.
